This hotel is full of amazing gadgets and robots. There is a robot receptionist will help guests in check-in and checkout procedures and speaks three languages including English, Korean and Japanese. The hotel’s other robots include a giant mechanical arm in a glass case that stores luggage in individual drawers for ¥500 (£2.50). There’s also a foot-high “concierge” who explains breakfast times and locations (only in Japanese) and orders taxis. Robot “porters” are two rechargeable luggage trolleys–but only for residents of one luxury wing.

Future factories-humans are underrated
Tesla’s new factory in Fremont California was the world’s first fully automated car plant, equipped with machines and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled robots, which would do everything. Unfortunately, the output of the Model 3 electric car fell well short of its 5,000 targets. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO conceded on Twitter last April, “Yes, excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake. To be precise, my mistake. Humans are underrated.”

Liverpool is famous as the home of the Beatles and the Walker Art Gallery, housing Hockney, Degas, and Turner. It is also an important maritime city endowed with grand 19th-century civic buildings and an unrivalled musical heritage. In the 1960s, Liverpool lost its main economic base with the closure of its city-centre docks, killed by containerization. The 19th port buildings soon became derelict. Unlike most other cities, Liverpool was a “one horse town” and when the port died – so did the city. The resultants huge job losses in the Liverpool region, known as Merseyside, caused the population to decline by over half a million people–from 1.9 million in 1980 to just 1.3 million residents in 2001. Parts of the city resembled a ghost city of abandoned homes, shops, and businesses. The only benefits were that the deserted buildings became popular with film and television makers such as the crime movies ‘Going off Big Time’ and ‘The 51st State’.

Power Generation Technology
E.ON starts construction on South Texas windfarm
This spring E.ON began construction on a 151 MW Peyton Creek wind project. With the addition of Peyton Creek, E.ON will have a total capacity of more than 4,000 MW online in the U.S. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The project is located in Matagorda County, Texas.
Largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea opened
The Arkona offshore wind farm owned by E.ON and Equinor came into operation this spring. Arkona is the largest wind farm in the entire Baltic Sea. At an event to celebrate the launch of this project were German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Norway’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum Kjell-Børge Freiberg launched power generation together with E.ON CEO Johannes Teyssen and other guests of honour.
Kusile Unit 3 synchronised to the national grid 8 months ahead of schedule
This spring, South African state power utility Eskom announced that the Kusile coal power project, located near Malahleni in Mpumalanga, had reached a new milestone on Sunday 14 April 2019 when Unit 3 was synchronised to the grid and produced its first power in the early evening.
New Forest pylon project
Despite strong support, England’s National Grid has decided to pause work on its landscape enhancement project to remove eight pylons from Hale Purlieu in the New Forest National Park following advice from legal experts, the regulator and its independent Stakeholder Advisory Group.

The new tunnel lining that kept explosives safe

Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) was undertaking an extension of the West Island Line (WIL) from Sheung Wan to Kennedy Town. Building power interconnectors
Around the world we are seeing an increasing number of power interconnectors linking both regional and national power grids together. Such projects are giant cables that allow electricity to be transmitted in either direction. In the U.K.’s case, such interconnectors are usually subsea high voltage power cables crossing the seas like the English Channel, North Sea or Irish Sea. In other parts of Europe, they cross mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees or Alps or the forests of the Baltic States or Scandinavia.
Utilities investing in start-ups
An increasing number of leading European power companies are investing in start-ups, these include such companies as France EDF, Germany’s EON and Italy’s Enel. Already, several billion euros have been allocated by such utilities in various venture capital funds they have set up to invest in innovative start-ups.
Peaking power plants prospects
Traditionally, utilities worldwide have used peaking plants to supplement power at times of peak demand on the grid. Such peaks in demand can be caused by people switching on the air-conditioning during a heat wave, or even when people return from the office to home. In addition, they have become increasingly used to supplement power needs when output declines from renewable power plants.

Royal Dutch Shell, one of the world’s biggest oil and gas groups, is aiming to become the largest electricity company by the 2030s, as it prepares for a fundamental shift in global energy supplies towards lower-carbon sources.

MEXICO’S GAS OUTLOOK
Mexico’s rapid growth of demand for electricity over the last decade happily coincided with burgeoning supplies of cheap shale gas in nearby Texas. This Mexican demand and Texan abundance drove a boom in cross-border pipeline construction which continues to this day. Mexico’s own declining gas output helped encourage liberalisation of the energy market in 2013, allowing both the private and public sector to seize the opportunity provided by cheap gas supplies to begin building gas power stations and new gas pipelines, a trend which was subsequently reinforced by the government’s commitment to meet its Paris Accord targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
