Energy outlook in California

Like everywhere, having secure, affordable, and environmentally sustainable energy supplies is vital for a modern economy such as California, which is the largest in the United States, boasting a $2.798 trillion gross state product as of 2017. As a sovereign nation of 39 million, California would rank as the world’s fifth largest economy, ahead of the UK but behind Germany. The most dominant sectors of California’s economy are low energy intensive industries such as agriculture, science and technology, trade, media and tourism.
